Steelers Draft Preview 2021: Cornerback – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There are a few different avenues the Steelers could take with their first round pick, and drawing a cornerback is high on the list.

The Steelers may have their pick of players at this position if they pick, and there are few people worthy of the 24th pick.

Alabama’s Patrick Surtain could be a good match for the Steelers if they opt for a defensive back early on. It’s big, sporty and also good at zone coverage. He doesn’t have elite speed but can lock up other players. Surtain could be a good replacement for Steven Nelson out there.

Caleb Farley may be the best corner on the board, but his stocks fell after he pulled out last season. The Virginia Tech product is considered a lockdown corner.

South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn is possibly the fastest turn available. Horn was clocked at 4.39 seconds in the 40 yard dash. Horn has played most of the last season but signed out with three games remaining.

Asante Samuel Jr. from the state of Florida has the pedigree. His father was an NFL pro bowler. Samuel could be a good pick in the second round if he’s still available.

There are a few people to watch out for in central Florida, including Aaron Robinson and Tay Gowan. Robinson is ranked a little higher, but Gowan could be a late gamble after pulling out last season
