WEST VIEW (KDKA) – It’s been almost a year since the coronavirus pandemic hit the nation in full and restaurants have struggled.

Howard’s Tavern in West View is no exception.

The restaurant has been in the family for three generations and was first opened in 1962.

Derek and Rachel Bovill along with Jennifer Gronsky now run it.

They told KDKA after the pandemic outbreak they weren’t sure they could keep the business going but vowed their parents and grandparents to do whatever it takes to keep the legacy alive.

“It was hard. It was really tough, ”said Derek Bovill. “I started doing a second job just to try to make ends meet.”

Then on Friday they got the call they were hoping for.
