Netflix’s new dramedy The chair is finally here, and if it inspires you to visit cool New England and soak up the historic architecture, you are not alone. With all-star actors such as Sandra Oh, Jay Duplass and Holland Taylor, the miniseries takes place at the fictional Pembroke University and follows Professor Ji-Yoon Kim (Oh), who becomes the first female chairman of the young English faculty in Pembroke and is responsible for it to revise it before the administrations start making cuts.
Although college is supposed to be set in Massachusetts, actual filming took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The show took advantage of the historically rich campuses of Washington & Jefferson College and Shadyside of Chatham University to film scenes from Pembroke, and we must say they hit the dark academic aesthetic. Anyone familiar with the universities will be able to see Pembroke’s buildings, including Dr. Kim, which is located in the Mellon Center, one of the central buildings of Chatham.

These students follow strict coronavirus security protocols required by both W&J and Netflix for the safety of both the campus community and manufacturing. “
