Trai Turner explains why he signed with Pittsburgh
Whenever a professional athlete signs with a new team through an independent agency, many factors can influence his decision. While one player may want to sign with a team that will give them an expanded role, another player may choose to join an organization closer to their hometown. When it comes to five-time Pro Bowl offensive guard Trai Turner, the competitive nature of the team made him choose to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers for this off-season.
Speaking to NFL Total Access’ Omar Ruiz on Tuesday, Turner told him that he had joined the Steelers because they “always compete against each other, are always in the game and play my style of football”.

Turner described his style of play as “Smashmouth” football. For those who don’t know what he’s talking about, the Veteran Guard described it this way:
“Able to get out and pull, get some space and run a little bit. Just have some fun man. It’s fun when you throw the touchdowns, but I think it’s fun when you’re able to run too. “

The Steelers had no problem scoring through the air in 2020 as they recorded 2.3 pass touchdowns per game (T-5th) while averaging 42.6 tries per competition in the league. When it comes to the running of the ball, that’s a different story. Pittsburgh had by far the worst rushing offensive in the NFL last season, pitching just 82.5 rushing YPG.
Fortunately, Turner’s talents should help the Steelers in the air and on the ground. The five-time pro bowler only allowed one sack last season while taking 2 penalties in 536 offensive snaps for the Los Angeles Chargers. He will play with a chip on his shoulder after his release from the Chargers in March. So make sure that Turner is doing everything it can to take Pittsburgh to the next level in 2021.
There is still much to prove before the football world sees the Steelers as a team of championship caliber. FanDuel Sportsbook gave them odds of +4400 to win Super Bowl 56, which puts them in 19th place with the Arizona Cardinals.
