Turnpike closes Sunday between Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley Interchanges

Traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Allegheny Valley Transportation Hub in Harmar and the Pittsburgh Transportation Hub in Monroeville will have to make a detour off the toll road early Sunday morning as crews remove the original Unity Trestle Road bridge in Plum Borough.

The Turnpike closes at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday and continues until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday if the weather is nice. If the weather is bad, these bridge works will be carried out on April 11th

The new bridge was built next to the existing bridge and opened to traffic in November, the Turnpike Commission announced.

The Turnpike Commission suggests that traffic going east be following the proposed detour:

• Traffic to the east ends at the Allegheny traffic junction:

• Freeport Road to Route 910 West to Route 28 South to I-579 South / Veterans Bridge the Parkway East to the Pittsburgh Interchange

• Westbound traffic ends at the Pittsburgh Interchange:

• Parkway East to Ft. Duquesne Bridge to Route 28 north to Route 910 east to Freeport Road to the Allegheny Valley Interchange.

Information will be released and announcements made on the Oakmont / Plum service area ahead of the closure to warn customers not to continue driving after 11 p.m. on Saturday. As soon as the road is open to traffic, a single lane will be led through the project area until 11 a.m. on Sunday.
