“It’s about the extent of the violence that is going on in the city of Pittsburgh. The number of people carrying guns and here, once again, in an area where children play soccer, is unacceptable when someone is shot. That has to stop, ”said boss Schubert.

The Pittsburgh Police received a ShotSpotter alert at 6.45pm for shooting at Quarry Field. They learned that the victim was being driven from the scene in a white car.
“When the call came, I was just out checking the area,” said boss Schubert.
Chief Schubert was patrolling the South Side on Carson Street because of the ongoing violence and recent shootings, so he drove to the field.

On his way to the field, he spotted the vehicle and stopped it at South 21st and Josephine Streets. He found the man who had been shot in the passenger seat.
The officers tried to save the man’s life and they took turns performing CPR, but he did not survive.
The victim has now been identified as 29-year-old Darian Simpkins.
“The officers, I can’t believe how much work you did to save the person. … The paramedics and the police did a great job trying to save him, ”said boss Schubert.
Detectives processed evidence at both locations. The driver of the vehicle gave a statement to the police and the vehicle was towed for processing.
