WPIAL managing director Amy Scheuneman, who is leading a league-wide food campaign this fall, was appointed to the sports and media coalition of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Monday.
Scheuneman joins a 20-person council made up of representatives from the local media and the area’s college and professional sports organizations.
The coalition’s goal is to “ensure that all youth in the area get enough healthy food,” according to a WPIAL press release announcing Scheuneman’s admission. In addition, the group intends to “raise awareness of resources available to improve children’s food security, work together to reduce stigmatization for children participating in child feeding programs, work together to promote healthy eating and physical activity for children , and advocate strong “child nutrition policies” with elected officials.
The coalition, which includes Jennifer Bertetto, President and CEO of Trib Total Media, will officially launch on January 1st.
“I am very excited to be part of this distinguished group of sports and media leaders to come together to raise awareness and end childhood hunger,” Scheuneman said in a statement. “The initiatives and goals of this coalition will not only benefit the families in all WPIAL school districts, but also the students and student athletes whom we serve on a daily basis.”
The WPIAL will announce details of its food campaign on October 3rd.
