WPIAL Launches League-Extensive Meals Marketing campaign to Assist Native Households in Want – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A new type of competition is heating up at schools in the area as the WPIAL organizes a special food campaign to give something back.

It’s a competition you can’t train for, but one that will surely help the community.

Several local school districts are divided into six departments.

For two weeks the counties will work hard to collect most of the food and funds.

All of the food and money will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Food Bank’s Food Bank Fundraising Coordinator says the need for food security resources across the region has continued to increase by 31%, so this event will help tremendously.

The organizers will count donations and announce the winners at the end of the month.

The winners will be awarded a banner at the Sportsmanship Summit of the WPIAL on November 17th.

One meal can be provided for every 1.25 pounds of food donated. Five meals can be provided for every dollar donated.

With only $ 500 in each school, more than 250,000 meals can be distributed to local children, families, and seniors who need it most.

By Monday morning, the Moon Area school district had raised more than $ 1,000.

The Food Drive runs until October 23rd.

To donate food, check with your local school district to see when they are running promotions.
