WPXI companions with 412 Meals Rescue to ship additional meals to those that want it most – WPXI
PITTSBURGH – 11 Cares and our partners – Dollar Bank, Duquesne Light Company and Gateway Health – continue to help feed our neighbors in need.
We partnered with 412 Food Rescue to deliver surplus food to nonprofits that serve those who need it most.
412 Food Rescue works with grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and farms that donate excess food.
Technology is used to mobilize volunteers – known as food rescue heroes – to rescue food and deliver it to nonprofit partners, including housing authorities, churches and community centers. In some cases, unsafe food is being delivered to unsafe food homes.
According to 412 Food Rescue, the company was founded because of the separation between food waste, hunger and environmental sustainability. Up to 40 percent of the world’s food is wasted, according to the organization.
