Airways add 17 new worldwide airport locations in Pittsburgh

At the beginning of the summer vacation season, more and more airlines are offering new non-stop flights.

At the beginning of the summer vacation, trips from Pittsburgh International Airport are high. And it comes as more airlines add non-stop flights to new locations. While taping The Sunday Business Page with Jon Delano, Airport Authority’s Bryan Dietz said that this year alone, airlines serving Pittsburgh have added 17 new destinations. And some low-cost airlines are offering better airfares as the airlines compete to get passengers back on flights.

BRYAN DIETZ: What is different this summer, however, is that we are not seeing as many business travelers go to heaven again. So what happens is that vacationers drive a lot of airline decisions. So you see American fly nonstop to Orlando, United fly nonstop to Charleston, Portland, Maine, Pensacola, Norfolk, places that travelers want to visit for leisure travelers.
