DE Patrick Jones II, Pittsburgh, 90th general

EAGAN, Minn. – – The Vikings strengthened their line of defense in the third round on Friday night, claiming Pittsburgh Edge rusher Patrick Jones II with their 90th overall victory.

The selection of Jones gives the Vikings another defensive ending to their search for the quarterback, a collection that currently includes Danielle Hunter, Stephen Weatherly, DJ Wonnum and Jalyn Holmes.

Minnesota hit just 23 sacks in 2020, the lowest total in franchise history since Sacks were officially recognized in 1982.

Jones, a redshirt senior who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 261 pounds on his NFL.com bio pagewas a consensus All-American in 2020 and was also named as the First-Team All-ACC selection.

He started all 11 games for Pittsburgh on the defensive end and collected 44 tackles, 13.0 tackles against loss, 9.0 sacks and a fiddly recovery.

Its sacks topped the ACC and ranked fifth in the nation, and its 22 career sacks ranked 12th all-time in program history.

Jones will be able to train against former Panthers against Brian O’Neill.
