Groundbreaking ceremony for the brand new MINT constructing on the College of Pittsburgh in Bradford | information
Bradford, Pa., 17th August 2021 / PRNewswire / – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (known as Pitt-Bradford) celebrates the groundbreaking for the construction of its new 39,000 square meter Engineering & Information Technologies Building. The project was designed by a national architecture / engineering firm, HED, work with LGA partner as an architect, interior designer and building manager). Rycon construction is the general contractor who creates the project.
Vogelheim from HED: “This is a signature building with the mission to positively influence the economic development of the region.”
“This is a really exciting development for Pitt-Bradford, “said Rick Esch, Interim president of the campus. “It is the first academic building the campus has built in two decades and it will provide a state-of-the-art home for our computer information systems and technology program, energy science and technology students, and two emerging engineering technologies.” Programs. “
That $ 17.69 million The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
The building will be a self-contained facility that will house mechanical engineering, power engineering, relocated energy science and technology programs, and computer information systems and technology, and academic support rooms for more student enrollment. The building will include engineering labs, engineering offices, computer labs, the campus computing center, large group classrooms, and faculty and staff offices.
According to the HED director Chris Vogelheim, AIA, “Cooperative teamwork can cross borders. The close collaboration between the owner and the design team made it possible to create a building that will transform the campus. This is a unique building with the grand mission of positively impacting the region’s economic development by creating an inspiring engineering space on this campus. “
The new building will be the center for technology and innovation on campus and throughout Pennsylvania–New York State-line region and will house rapid prototyping machines, oscilloscopes, engineering lab stations, and more to provide students with hands-on technical learning.
The project team has aligned all building functions to open up to a two-story collaboration center to improve visibility, accessibility, interactions and team building. This centralized commons offers a more social, team-based learning model than was previously seen on campus. A cantilevered, metal-clad “bar” of the faculty office hovers over a largely glazed, collaborative first floor and forms a dynamic north edge for the newly formed square. A deep building floor area and the strategic integration of glass reduce energy consumption and at the same time preserve access to daylight and a view. Exposed ceilings in the building’s central maker hub deliberately set the scene for building systems.
