PITTSBURGH – The blue note at the entrance to the Gulf Tower downtown is the kind of clue you’re more likely to find on a long-abandoned house in a contested neighborhood.
However, after a significant fire in the building’s basement a few weeks ago, the City of Pittsburgh released a conviction notice for the Gulf Tower, a 44-story building with a total area of over 437,000 square feet, declaring it unsafe and uninhabitable .
Amid recent reports of the cause of the fire, Larry Walsh, chief operating officer and director of Rugby Realty Co. Inc., who owns the building, said the company had used crews to repair the building.
