NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) – A local company that is committed to giving back to others receives the thanks it deserves.

Customers can pay for what they can with the Knead Community Cafe in New Kensington. If you don’t have money, you won’t be turned away.

The company has also provided thousands of free meals for those in need.

On Friday, the café received a special award – the Most Exceptional Community Service Award from Northwestern Mutual.

The award is endowed with a $ 25,000 grant to keep the mission alive.

“It will help us keep feeding people. We’re giving away approximately 3,400 meals a month, now up to over 1,500 meals. So the money will help us keep feeding the people who need meals most, ”said Kevin Bode, Founder of Knead Community Cafe.

Bode and volunteers distribute meals weekly. More than $ 100,000 was raised each year to support the business.
