Peduto’s communications director is leaving his place with the town this week

Pittsburgh Mayor’s communications director Bill Peduto will be stepping down from his role with the city later this week, the mayor’s office said Tuesday.

Molly Onufer, 33, from Shadyside, started working in the Office of Community Affairs for the city in December 2016, where she worked as a manager from 2017 to 2019.

Peduto appointed Onufer as deputy communications director in January 2020. She became Director of Communications in July 2021.

During her time in the communications office, Onufer was deputy press officer and later press officer.

“As a fourth generation Pittsburgh resident, it was incredible to be part of transforming the city I love and telling the story of the important and hard work my colleagues in the Peduto administration have worked to make Pittsburgh stronger, more just and livable City for everyone, ”said Onufer.

She thanked Peduto, Chief of Staff Dan Gilman, and former Chief of Staff Kevin Acklin for the opportunity to “serve the city and work in partnership with the media and community.”

“Molly is a long-time friend and trusted advisor,” said Peduto. “During her time with the city, Molly worked to find new, effective ways to communicate with the public. I would like to thank her for telling the story of the city – first personally in front of the city residents at community meetings and then as the city’s spokeswoman. “

Friday will be Onufers last day with the city. She will then take on a new position as Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Millcraft Investments, a real estate developer based in Cecil.
