DALLAS (KDKA) – Pittsburgh-based owner of Dallas Mavericks and Mark Cuban has decided to stop playing the national anthem before the Games.

According to a report from ESPN, the Cuban made the decision after consulting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
While NBA rules require players to stand during the national anthem, the league has decided not to enforce the rule.

The Cuban said in an interview over the summer that he would be supporting players he wanted to kneel with during the national anthem.
“Whether it is about putting your arm in the air, whether it takes a knee, whatever it is, I don’t think this is an issue of respect or disrespect for the flag, the anthem or our country” the Cuban further told ESPN is off the lines. “I think this more reflects our players’ commitment to this country and the fact that it is so important to them that they are ready to say what is in their heart and do what they see fit . “

Cubans and Mavericks have said they have no immediate plans to play the national anthem again before the Games.
