Stop in to apply.” “There is no question that supply and demand is at work here. And when there’s a shortage in supply, prices go up. In this case, wages go up,” John Longstreet, president and CEO of the PA Restaurant and Lodging Association told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, when asked about an apparent worker shortage.But people on social media are pointing out — and questioning why — the signs inside both McKnight Road McDonalds say, “Management up to $16 an hour” and “Crew up to $12.50 an hour.”A McDonald’s corporate media told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4,”…we have enhanced our benefits in order to attract talent in a highly competitive market. This includes raising starting wages. The signage on the outside of the restaurant is more recent than the signage on the inside. Many of our recent management-level hires have started at $22 per hour, though, as is the case in any hiring scenario, things like experience, availability and skillset affect specific pay rates.”PA Food Merchants Association president and CEO Alex Baloga told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, “Advertising and raising wages. Our folks are doing all of those things. They’re really competing again, very seriously for available workers.” Longstreet told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, “They say the problem is 10 times worse than it was going into the pandemic, when we already had a worker shortage in our industry. So the problem is severe. It’s severe in all industries.
