Leafs followers are already dropping hope after one other heavy loss

It started with a Toronto Maple Leafs fan throwing their jersey on the ice after losing to the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
A day later, it escalated to the point where Mike Babcock was trending on Twitter after drubbing 7-1 through the Pittsburgh Penguins.
After another loss on Monday to the Carolina Hurricanes – who owned the Leafs before the puck even dropped in with David Ayres in their pre-game conversation – Leafs supporters seem tired of it all.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe and the Toronto players tried to maintain a positive attitude after the game, but those words fell on deaf ears with a fan base that has seen their team underperform year after year.
After another first-round playoff knockout last season, this time with a 3-1 lead over rivals Montreal Canadiens, the Leafs stumbled out of the gate with a record of 2-4-1 in 2021-22. Toronto have 75 games left to get the ship back on track, but the club doesn’t have the luxury of playing in the all-Canadian league this year and will have to fight much harder to make it into the postseason.
Auston Matthews and Co. better hope they warm up quickly, otherwise they risk alienating even more from the impatient, restless fan base. Here are some of the best social media reactions after the loss on Monday.
