PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – More than 36,000 UPMC patients may have had their personal information accessed following a data breach at a company that provides UPMC “billing-related legal services”.

The violation did not occur at UPMC and had no impact on patient records.

According to Charles J. Hilton and Associates PC, suspicious activity was discovered in employees’ email systems in June last year. An investigation found that hackers logged into a series of employee emails from April 1 to June 25.

Some UPMC patients’ information may have been accessed, but Charles J. Hilton & Associates PC states that there is no evidence that the data has been misused. They work with UPMC to inform affected patients.
