The South Butler County School District and local community members have come together to serve neighbors in need.
At their meeting on Wednesday evening, the South Butler School Board was notified that the district was awarded first place in Category 5A of the WPIAL Food and Fund Drive Challenge to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
As part of the challenge, the schools competed to see who could provide the most meals. The food collected by South Butler will help the food bank serve over 7,000 individual meals. A group of South Butler students will receive a banner on sportsmanship at the WPIAL summit next week.
South Butler collects groceries at the sports office and at home sporting events. Monetary donations have also been accepted through the Pittsburgh Food Bank website.
