The previous Penguins participant says the staff helped him get off medication following allegations made within the NHL – WPXI

PITTSBURGH – A former Penguins player also posted his own experience on social media after Vegas Golden Knights goalkeeper Robin Lehner accused several NHL teams of giving players pain medication without a prescription.

The problem was raised after Lehner posted a controversial Twitter thread over the weekend. He said he wanted to draw attention to the surgical problems between Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabers. On Twitter, Lehner accused teams of selling benzodiazepines and Ambien to players without a prescription, specifically highlighting NHL and NHL player safety.

Is it common in workplaces to give benzodiazepines to employees when they are traveling and in the local area? Shouldn’t that be done by doctors or psychiatrists? Asking a friend πŸ‘€ that doesn’t happen in Vegas, to be clear. But I know a lot of other teams. I’ve also been on teams that do that?

Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tom Sestito said days later on Twitter, “The amount of vitamin T (Toradol) and Ambien that I was given is insane.” Then he praised the penguins’ medical staff and said they had helped him come off the medication and “was amazed why I had all of this from the start”.

Good for @RobinLehner who is committed to the common good, I can only speak for myself, the amount of Vitamin T (Toradol) and Ambien I got is amazing. With the NHL getting much younger, these kids should know what they’re getting into.

Sestito said he once received a bottle of Toradol from a team doctor and “felt amazing”.

β€œI couldn’t raise my arm above my head 2 hours before a game. I was told I was taking 3 pills as the team didn’t have a place to call anyone. In 20 minutes I was able to do jumping jacks without pain, ”he wrote.

Also, there are great organizations in the NHL, the @pinguin medical team got me rid of all that shit and was amazed why I had it all from the start

Sestito spent most of the three seasons in the Penguins organization.

The NHL and NHLPA eventually met with Lehner on the allegations. Lehner said he was very encouraged by the discussion.

Benzodiazepines are tranquilizers and include brand names such as Valium, Xanax, and Ativan. They are prescribed to relieve anxiety and muscle spasms. Toradol is used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe pain.
