Allegheny County’s health director Debra Bogen says the recent influx of numbers has been due to both damage control measures and fewer testing while on vacation. You and County Executive Rich Fitzgerald urge everyone not to lose their vigilance.

It was earlier in the afternoon when Governor Wolf announced that restaurants would again allow indoor dining.

Dr. Bogen says a handful of restaurants have stood defiant and if things continue legal action will be taken against them. So she’s asking people to patronize the institutions that obey the rules.

Now with many districts returning next week, health officials are shifting the state of what to do. Dr. Bogen recommends that districts give priority to safely returning students.

Nearly 10,000 doses were given in the county with the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Bogen knows people are upset with how the process is going, but she is optimistic that things will go faster in the new year.

“I think after the New Year the vaccination effort will really take off and our efficiency and effectiveness in distributing it will keep getting better. I can only know what is happening here, but I agree with what has happened so far and I expect a huge improvement in the next few weeks, ”said Dr. Debra Bogen, Allegheny County Health Director.

She believes the health systems have done a good job with vaccinations. The county health department is getting into a rhythm after taking its doses last week.
