PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Fox Chapel Area school district has notified families that they will resume face-to-face classes on Monday, December 7th.

According to the district, elementary schools will remain a five-day personal model, while students at Dorseyville Middle School and Fox Chapel Area High School will maintain the hybrid model.

Schoolchildren and middle school students continue to have the option of participating in virtual learning, blended learning and the asynchronous model.

Fox Chapel Area School District says they will follow mandate from the Pa Department of Health and will work with Allegheny County’s Department of Health on positive cases within schools.

There have been 10 active cases of COVID-19 as of December 2, and a total of 42 cases since the start of the school year, according to Fox Chapel.

“We hope that in the future we will no longer have to learn completely virtually for students at one of our schools,” said Dr. Mary Catherine Reljac in a letter to the families. “We will continue to closely monitor the conditions in each of our school buildings in case we need to quickly change the teaching models in a particular school. In addition to the number and context of COVID-19 cases, the district may need to switch a school or the district to distance learning due to other variables including absence of teachers / absence of representatives. a lack of bus drivers; Inability to provide groceries due to absence of staff in the cafeteria; Lack of custodians; Lack of school nurses; and instructions from local, state or federal authorities. ”
