The Southern Pines man steals a truck on the Pittsburgh airport and crashes into the terminal’s sidewalk, based on police

PITTSBURGH (WBTW) – Police on Friday arrested a North Carolina man who is accused of stealing a maintenance truck at Pittsburgh International Airport and crashing the truck into the interior path that connects the terminal to the airport parking lot, according to police Allegheny County.

Harry Griffith, 35, of Southern Pines, is accused of stealing the truck while an airport employee was emptying a trash can Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

After the crash, Griffith jumped out of the truck and was followed by the employee, according to police.

Police arrived at the airport and found that the truck had crashed through the glass doors into a cement pillar in the building near the airport-linked Hyatt Regency Hotel. The airbags were deployed.

Griffith had cuts on his arms and legs, according to police. He was taken to a hospital.

According to the Post-Gazette, Griffith hit cars in the parking lot around 6 p.m. when the police were originally called.

At some point in the parking lot, Griffith is accused of racist accusations against someone, but police did not say whether it was before or after the crash, the newspaper reports.

The Post-Gazette reports that Griffith was charged with DUI, theft, ethnic intimidation and other charges related to the crash.
