Your COVID vaccine may very well be inflicting this one weird facet impact, the physician says

As COVID vaccinations get faster in the US, more and more people are becoming familiar with the expected side effects of your shots. During a question-and-answer segment on local subsidiary CBS4 Denver, Dave HnidaMD, the station’s medical editor, discussed some of the unusual side effects patients reported after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. According to some patients, vivid dreams of the future and space similar to the movie “Back to the Future” have been reported.

“Fly to the moon, plant the flag on the moon,” Hnida recalled from the descriptions. “Even someone who goes out and takes Abraham Lincoln to get a Big Mac and the staff wants him to sign the bills.”

But the vivid dreams are not limited to hover cars, interstellar travel, and hungry presidents. “One of them was, I saved a Belgian city from the Nazis, so that was interesting.” Richard Vetstein, a patient who received both doses of Moderna, told Pittsburgh’s local CBS subsidiary KDKA. “The other one, I was on the Titanic. You wake up wondering what was that?”

Fortunately, although the body’s reaction seems really strange, in this case it is not a sign of anything serious. “We really believe it has something to do with the immune response,” Hnida said, explaining that the vaccine could disrupt sleep cycles, including the REM cycle where dreaming occurs. “You are temporary.”

“Metal mouth”

According to Hnida, in some rare cases, patients have reported a strange taste shortly after ingestion. “People, literally within a few minutes of getting their vaccine about a day later, just tastes like they have a lot of coins in their mouths, a really metallic taste.”

However, the symptom isn’t a sign of anything serious and is likely part of the immune response. John A. Sellick, Jr., DO, professor of medicine in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Buffalo-SUNY, told Popsugar, “I suspect this is part of a ‘vagal’ response – the same one that gives you sweat, flushing, and drowsiness in anticipation of one injection [or] Procedure. “

“COVID arm”

Another symptom mentioned by Hnida was the “COVID arm,” a red, itchy, swollen, or painful rash at the injection site that is most commonly reported by patients who have received Moderna shots but has since been reported to have been in recipients of other COVID-19 – Vaccines have been observed. “What happens here is about five to seven days after you were vaccinated. Filler injection swelling

Hnida also advises that people who have received dermal filler injections in the lips should be prepared for the possibility of swelling in response to the vaccine. However, experts say the response isn’t just limited to the COVID vaccine.

“This is nothing new. Flu shots, other bacterial / viral diseases, vaccines, or dental procedures are all immunological reactions that occur. ” Shilpi KhetarpalDermatologist, MD, told the Clevland Clinic in February. “They are not allergies. They are not infections. These are just immunological reactions that involve swelling in places where people have or have had fillers.”

And it can’t just be limited to newer procedures. “I’ve seen patients who reacted to the vaccine and had their fillers placed anywhere from weeks to years,” added Khetarpal. “In one case, a person was given a filler in 2018 and they started to swell after receiving the vaccine. So it seems it can happen at any point as these fillers can last much longer than we think.”

Armpit lump

Other patients have reported swelling in strange parts of the body, including the armpits. However, according to a CDC report on the Moderna vaccine, the agency said the lymph node swelling, also known as lymphadenopathy, can occur in either the arm or neck. In fact, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says you should expect the possibility of “swollen lymph nodes in the same arm as the injection” for both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

Similar to other vaccine side effects, swollen lymph nodes are just one way your body can show that it is building an immune response. Purvi Parikh, MD, immunologist with Allergy & Asthma Network and co-investigator for COVID-19 vaccine studies at NYU, told Popsugar. The vaccine activates immune cells in your lymph nodes, and since the ones near your armpit are usually the closest to your injection site, they may be the most prone to swelling, Parikh explained.
